Wayne Simien, KU Campus Minister

Education:  Kansas University, Sociology

Originally from Leavenworth, KS, Wayne came to the University of Kansas to play basketball after being named a McDonald’s All-American.  While attending KU, Wayne received recognition as a two time All-American and was the Big 12 Player of the Year his senior season.  More importantly, it was during his time at KU that he made the decision to acknowledge Jesus as His Lord and Savior.  Upon graduation, he was selected with the 29th overall selection of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat, with whom he won a championship in 2006.  Wayne retired from professional basketball in 2009 at which time he started an athletic ministry for youth.  He currently serves as the director of youth sports and as a campus minister, including his duties as chaplain for the KU Football and Basketball programs.  He is married to his wonderful wife Katie and they have three beautiful children- Selah, Rael and Simon.
