But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:7
God desires to minister to His people. He desires to minister to you. To do that, He has given the manifestations of the Holy Spirit as a way to profit you as you minister to others and others minister to you.
The world does not have this. Sure, unbelievers help and encourage each other, but they do not have the breath of God working in and through them for edification. As the Apostle Paul said, “You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led” (1 Cor. 12:1). Even though we live in the modern age, unbelievers are still carried away to dumb idols—people and things that cannot speak for God.
As Christians, this makes us air-driven tools. It’s like the mechanic who uses the high-powered wrench that removes bolts in a couple seconds. We are empowered to do works for God because of the breath of the Holy Spirit working in and through us:
For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. ~ Philippians 2:13
Once we understand this simple reality, we have to apply ourselves towards it, and that means pulling on heaven itself for this spiritual empowering:
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man. ~ Ephesians 3:14-16
We must be strengthened with might through God’s Spirit in our inner man, viz. our spirit. This is part of the purpose of prayer—it’s our spiritual exchange with God Himself to do His good work in our hearts:
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ~ Romans 8:26
Even if you don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit is still working in your heart. Your responsibility is to acknowledge it and believe accordingly. The more you do, the more you’ll experience the fruit of the empowering. The more you do that, the more you’ll be used by God to edify others. Again, “the manifestation of the Spirit is given to EACH ONE for the profit of ALL.”
