“If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” ~ Matthew 6:23
The greatest darkness is the darkness that you think is light. If you’re in such a state, you’re trapped because you won’t be looking for a way out. If you think you’re in the light, then you’re not searching for light.
This is where the unsaved are—in darkness—but they are convinced they stand in the light. What kind of upside down world do we live where people believe and teach that this incredible world in which we live is the complete result of an accident? They are so convinced of this that they actually consider creationism a fool’s fairy tale.
That is by far the greatest darkness. How self-deceived do you have to be in order to convince yourself that animals, mountains, rivers, children, air, minds, love, and thought are the result of billions upon billions of random events over billions of years? And they say WE are operating in blind faith?!
Yet, people that believe such things run the majority of schools, and the church is treated as meddling power grabbers. We speak of morality, so we’re somehow bad. They spew their immorality onto the world then suggest we change the channel if we don’t like it. They are blind, and they abide in the thickest darkness.
There is but one solution: the gospel of Jesus Christ. We can do nothing to pull men out of darkness by our own strength. There’s only one way:
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 4:6
The darkness that people live under is not physical, and it’s not intellectual. It’s a spiritual darkness that does cover over their minds and hearts and only the gospel and the Holy Spirit can bring them into the light of God’s mercy and grace.
